Carer Information

The Practice recognises the vital role carers play and understands the challenges that caring responsibilities can bring. We are committed to supporting carers and are happy to offer advice, information and signposting to relevant services whenever needed.

Who is a Carer?

A carer is someone who provides, or intends to provide, unpaid care and support to a family member, friend, neighbour or partner who could not manage without their help due to illness, disability, frailty, mental health difficulties or substance misuse.

Caring can be rewarding, but it can also affect your home life, employment, finances, wellbeing and relationships. You do not need to live with the person you care for to be recognised as a carer. Carers are not paid a wage for the support they provide and are often referred to as unpaid carers.

Support for Carers

If you look after someone, it is important that you know about your rights as a carer and the support available to you. You may be entitled to practical help, financial assistance, training, emotional support or a carers' assessment: Carers UK website
